Ayurveda

Ayurveda is based on Sankhya philosophy, which breaks the universe into twenty-four principles. On a gross physical level, they consist of five elements: Earth, Water, Fire, Air & Space.

On a subtle level, there are five senses, one associated with each element: smell with earth, taste with water, sight with fire, touch with air, hearing with space. The senses connect the external world with the internal world. The five elements control the body through three doshas ‘tridoshas’ or bodily humors.

The Three Doshas are Vata Dosha, Pitta Dosha and Kapha Dosha.

When the doshas are out of balance, diseases occur. Doshas are the principles of intelligence in the body that manage different elements by playing specific roles.

  • Vata dosha manages kinetic biological mode.
  • Pitta dosha manages transformative biological mode.
  • Kapha dosha manages lubrication and structural biological mode.
