Panchamahabhutas

Human body is the greatest creation of nature. Both the Universe & the human being are derived from the Panchamahabhutas. These Panchamahabhutas are omnipotent & occur in infinite varieties in which each has its own quantities & attributes.

Panchamahabhutas are Aakash,Vayu,Tej,Aap,Pruthvi.The equilibrium of panchamahabhutas denotes health & their disturbances denote disease.

Aakash (Ether): This is the first mahabhuta to be derived.It represents space whose essential quality is sound. The properties are subtle, soft, lubricating, pure, light etc. The srotasas in human body depict the Aakash mahabhuta. Alteration in these spaces lead to disease.

Vayu (Air): This is the second mahabhuta derived from the Aakash mahabhuta.It represents motion & its essential quality is touch. The properties are subtle,dry,rough,cold,light,pure.It stimulates motion & action in the human body. Any disturbance in the motion of Vayu leads to disease.

Tej (Fire): This is the third mahabhuta derived from Aakash & Vayu mahabhuta. It represents energy & its essential quality is appearance. The properties are hot ,pungent,subtle,dry,rough,light.It is responsible for digestion & metabolism in the body.

Aap (Water): This is the fourth mahabhuta derived from Aakash, Vayu,Tej mahabhutas. It represents cohesion & its essential quality is taste.Its properties are liquid, cold,unctuous,soft,slippery.The main effects of this mahabhuta are moistening & dissolving.

Pruthvi (Earth): This is the fifth mahabhuta derived from the Aakash,Vayu,Tej & Aap mahabhutas. It represents mass & its essential quality is smell. Its properties are heavy, stable, bulky, slow, compact, viscid… It stimulates regeneration & restoration in the body.
